  5. The package has been renamed to genpower (Generic Power 
  6. Monitoring for Linux).  After the release of unipower 1.0.0, I 
  7. was informed by Kendall Bennett that the firm he is employed by 
  8. (SciTech Software of Southbank Australia) already has a product 
  9. named UniPOWER.  Their product to quote Ken "is a set of DPMS 
  10. Monitor power management utilities and screensavers for DOS and 
  11. Windows (maybe Linux one day)."  They politely asked me to change 
  12. the name, so I did.  If you want any information on SciTech 
  13. Software's UniPOWER product, Ken's e-mail address is 
  14. KendallB@scitechsoft.com.

  16. Erwin Authried, dropped me a line offering some patches if I 
  17. wanted to have unipower be configurable at run time.  Turns out 
  18. that Erwin pretty much rewrote a good portion of unipowerd, and 
  19. did it a lot better than I probably could have.  He also provided 
  20. cable information for his Victron Lite UPS.

  22. Marek Michalkiewicz also sent patches to enable unipower to use 
  23. the serial data transmit lines to shut the inverter down, and to 
  24. check that the inverter was actually killed.  Marek also provided 
  25. a Linux specific APC cable, and a host of good comments to the 
  26. documentation.

  28. This is pretty much maintenance release to incorporate Erwin and 
  29. Marek's patches, change the name, and do a little cleaning up.  
  30. I'm still trying to get some of the stuff in the TODO list done 
  31. (I'm also planning on including it in the distribution this time 
  32. :->).

  37. The first general release of the unipower package.

  39. Changed Jim Ockers' cable design and added warning about APC 
  40. Back-UPS 400 series UPSs not providing +24V, per Jim's feedback.  
  41. Also made some spelling corrections to the source code at Jim's 
  42. request.

  44. At Corey Sweeny's request, I tried to make the plea to use 
  45. commercial cables a little stronger.  Neither of us are wizards 
  46. with a soldering iron and I don't think we should expect unipower 
  47. users to be either.  This makes the homebrewed cables a weak link 
  48. in the reliability of the package.  I plan to continue 
  49. presenting, and even expanding, the section on homebrewed cables 
  50. for those users who feel comfortable using them.

  52. There were no real programmatic changes to the unipower package 
  53. between the 0.2.2 beta and version 1.0.0.  I hope this means that 
  54. it is working well for all of the beta testers, and will work 
  55. well for the Linux community.

  60. Added additional logging to unipowerd.  More changes to the 
  61. documentation.  Added unitest to the package.  Fixed stupid 
  62. problem in unipowerfail to allow LOWBATTERY conditions to be 
  63. handled properly.  Several new cable for APC UPSs contributed by 
  64. beta testers.  Added INVERTERTIME define to unipowerd.h files to 
  65. allow configuration of the amount of time INVERTERBIT is held 
  66. high.
